Description

Money Manager is an accounting software tailored to each one. It is used to carry out business management or domestic accounting, with some new features that were reserved only for PCs. It was a very flexible program although it was perfectly adapted to the needs of the time.

Until now, this type of software was clearly differentiated according to the user to whom it was directed. There were management programs designed for companies, more or less large, and others for domestic use; what was not common is that an accounting program was compatible and could be used in both cases, since professionals were too complex to use them to keep accounts at home and those dedicated to this purpose fell short if we tried to use them manage a company, no matter how small.

CONNECT Softwarte Ltd presents us with the Money Manager, compatible for the entire range of PCW. It is a powerful account system, easy to use and suitable for business or personal applications, where it is necessary to control financial transactions in an orderly manner and the analysis or report of movements for a period of twelve months.

The version we know is the English version, but we know that it was adapted to Spanish and that it was on the market.

  • General characteristics

We can easily control all the possibilities that Money Manager has from a Main Menu. The maximum time that we will cover will be twelve months, although it allows us to eliminate a month below and create a file with a new month; we will manage up to twenty accounts (current, deposit, cash, credit cards, etc): it will allow us to define fifty concepts of income/expenses (salaries, food, gas, electricity, taxes, etc) and endorse them to the account that interests us; transfers between accounts. At most we can make 500 transactions per month, which will give us a total of 6000 per year (in the same file). We can manage movements in two ways: a file of what really happens or a forecast of what we would have to spend; This allows us to start with a budget forecast and update the information to see if we are within the budget. A detail to highlight, since there are few programs that bring it, is that we will have our own calculator to carry out the operations that we need.

The program has many more possibilities, which we will see as we analyze the main menu: I.V.A. management. (if we don't apply it, its passwords won't bother us and won't interfere with the rest of the program), different ways of displaying movements and a wide variety of tables and graphs that will allow us to analyze our financial position in depth.

Any of these reports can be output to the printer.

  • Main menu

Once loaded. The first thing that will appear will be the Money Manager logo and by pressing any key we will have the “menu” on the screen. This consists of 27 sections that will allow us to handle all the possibilities of this accounting. Doing a more detailed analysis we will see that in the left column are all the options related mainly to the data file; In the one in the center we will find the pertinent ones to adapt the program to our needs (and subsequent data entry), and the one on the right is related to everything that involves production reports.

Apart from the menu, we will have six function keys (they range from F1 to F6 and correspond to the keys of the same name on the computer), which we can access at any time. With them we will open windows that will give us information about the option that we have selected, they will tell us what each function key does, we will be able to call the calculator somewhere in the program, we will have the opportunity to work with macros, etc.

Without further ado, we are going to try to explain the possibilities of the program starting from the main menu and dividing it into four general sections: Configuration, Data entry, Data file and Manage reports.

Configuration: The program is prepared to work with the three types of PCW, therefore the first thing we will have to do is adapt it to our model. From the menu we will call this option and we will start working with a previously formatted disk. We will have to follow the instructions that appear on the screen, clear and concise, and after a good while of transferring files from the original disk, we will have a working copy in which the CP/M Plus startup program will even be included. . From this moment we are ready to start working on our own accounting.

The menu options related to this block are: Load file, Save file, Copy file, List fileData input: The first thing we will be asked to do is create the file; It will ask us the name that we are going to give it, the month in which we want to start and the year (option to create files). Once this is done, we will have the following possibilities in the menu: Add or edit entries, Check entries, Edit accounts, Edit classes (concepts), Edit brands, Edit I.V.A., Change the name of the file, etc. It is not necessary to explain most of these options, since by the name we know what their function is, but there is one of them, edition of marks, which, due to its features and novelty in the programs directed to our computer, perhaps needs clarification. Through a code we can have an identification or extra selection of tickets; nothing better than some examples to understand it. In the case of a shared current account, we will be able to know which of the holders has made a movement or in case of having another account with their own money and that of the company, to know what amount has been used; We can also use it in the concepts section (we will be able to know who has made an expense).

Managing all these options is simple, since the program will ask for the data to be entered and will notify us when they are not correct.

Data file: Within this section we are going to include everything related to the handling of the disk and its files. Livos, Delete files and Add new month.

If you remember, we told you that the most we could control were the movements made in twelve months. As the program creates a different file for each month, with the “add new month” option we can delete the oldest one to add a new one; this will help us to progress over time and update our accounting. The rest of us think that it does not need further clarification.

As in the previous section, and as will continue to happen in the rest of the program, a computer-user dialog will be established; this will facilitate any task that we carry out since it will indicate the step to follow.

Handling reports: Without a doubt, this is the most attractive part of the program since the possibilities of obtaining reports and account statements are multiple. Besides, we can request the year's statistics and ask them to present them to us in the form of a bar chart or pie chart.

The main menu options that we could consider integrated within this section are: Detailed status, I.V.A. (keep in mind that we are working with an English version and they call it V.A.T.), Monthly analysis, Total classes (concepts), Account analysis, Account balances, Statistics, Bar charts and Pie charts.

The program will ask us for a series of data to make the reports and in this way we will be able to make them from one account or from several, select the concepts, the brands, if we want it to come out by printer or screen, for a month or for the whole year , etc. It will not be necessary to give the name of the account or the concept, it will be enough to simply enter the password. Something slow when making graphs or performing some operations.

Conclusion

We are facing a good program whose versatility allows it to be used both in accounting for medium and small businesses and to control personal expenses. The manual is very complete, although we would not have had major problems since it is simple and clear to use..
