Hollywood is a game designed by Daved Anderson and Liz Cyr-Jones, published by Infocom in 1986. Based on the virtual machine Z-Machine. It was the twenty-third game of this company.
Remembering as a child, most of the summers we spent with our aunt Hildelgarde Montague's and our uncle Buddy Burbank, a Hollywood millionaire producer of classic movies. They never had children, we met Cousin Herman, in his great mansion. We were so comfortable in that house, and the memories of the big parties of him and all those people who filled his mansion. But Buddy and Hildy were a little eccentric but they had their charm.
Aunt Hildergarde kept the house when Uncle Buddy passed away. And now she died suddenly, but her memory is still in the Malibu mansion. We remember her last will, she would leave for me the inheritance of her entire estate that is probably worth several million. We will spend one night at the house searching the gardens and its large sprawling estates to find the ten treasures hidden by our aunt Hildelgarde, if these were not located in just one night, we could not inherit anything.
In the farm we will find hidden passages, a convoluted maze of hedges and other strange characteristics of the farm. We will find strange noises and the feeling that there is someone else inside the house. We will also come across objects of interest, posters, etc., from our uncle's films.
It's just the kind of thing our uncles loved and would expect from them. Some say the house is haunted, but let's not be fooled. We know that our uncle, although he wore different expensive polyester suits every day of the week, was very fond of jokes and was always manipulating and booby-trapping all over the farm.
We remember the house inside, everything was so bright, luxurious, but full of fun. He had a luxurious private room, where the faucets in the bathroom were gold-plated the color of the Oscars, and the shelves with his quirky old uncle movies. The Malibu estate seems laughable at first, but the riddles we must solve prove that our uncles weren't kidding.
So we start this game, in front of the house, in the darkest night and not far from the famous Hollywood.
Hollywood Hijinx, it turns out to be challenging and very quirky. The puzzles will test our wits with a standard difficulty, based on the treasure hunt. A short game, but with many difficulties and quite entertaining.
Among the feelies of the game box, we find: a copy of “Tinsel World”, a palm tree-shaped luck stick, an autograph with a photo of our Uncle Buddy with a clue on the back and the will of our aunt Hildelgarde.
