Description

Giantkiller is the first mathematical adventure game for children, based on the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” by PETER KILLWORTH, the author of the adventure games “Castle of Riddles”, “Countdown to Doom”, “Philosopher's Quest “And” Return to Doom. ”

The packaging is very simple consisting of a typewritten information booklet and the disk inside a transparent plastic folder. It is not something that immediately catches your eye, the game is recommended for all ages from 10 years.

The guide is very comprehensive covering topics such as “What is an adventure game”, “Children and Giantkiller” and a series of programming instructions complete with tips and maps of various places. There is a letter to the player from Peter Killworth explaining what you have to do and a list of the eleven treasures: the hat has to be found, as well as a list of the main words that the team understands. There is information in Giantkiller on how group work should be used in the classroom, how a great deal of satisfaction can be acquired by children in discussions about ways to solve the various puzzles and can lead to other mathematical work. The worksheets are provided for use in group or individual sessions and the concept of mapping is emphasized more.

So what is Giantkiller? As previously mentioned, it is loosely based on Jack and the magic beans, and they will take Jack or Jackie anywhere and being an adventure game you will have to write the instructions so that nothing happens to them. The objectives of the game are: explore all the parts, collect all the treasures and solve the problems to reach the maximum score of 250 points.

In the first part of the game, the puzzles involve calculator work, spatial investigations, simple and coordinates. As you progress through the game, the puzzles become more complex and involve topics such as mosaics, topology, work map, and time / space in the puzzle.

Once the giant's castle is reached there are more items to collect and even some action. This is where the option to save is an advantage, as long as it is done at the right time. If done at the wrong time, it can cost us a life. Due to the random nature of the game the puzzles are not always exactly the same.

There are password cards to collect and game rules to score to be used at a later stage. As in all fairy tales, help is at hand in the form of a benefactor and three magic words.

There is a tremendous amount of math concepts to learn in the game, if we have the time and patience to stick with it. A child is not used to adventure games and may get frustrated and boring to begin with, but if they persevere, they will get more of it as they go. It is true that it is a game to play with other children, parent or teacher as there is much to discuss and solutions to think about.

It is an interesting game that keeps you busy typing to achieve with effort and to be able to find our way in the different places, solve the puzzles, collect the treasures and thus move on to the next section and win those maximum 250 points.
