Description

Our role is that of a young nuclear engineer who has to face the problems that an earthquake creates in a nuclear power plant, close to a city.

1. Description:   Everyone was aware that sooner or later the earthquake was going to disrupt the daily lives of the people of Newtown, so sufficient precautions had been taken. This was due to the earth fault that crossed the city threatening its stability. However, no one could imagine the terrible events that would lead to disaster.

2. The history:

The events that led to the disaster were happening in the following way:

- Tuesday, 10 a.m.

They notify you of the existence of a fault in the cooling return systems at the nuclear power plant that you helped design. This plant is located on the outskirts of the city. The primary system showed no problems. Our mission is to coordinate the investigation carried out on the breakdown from our office in the city.

- Tuesday, 2.30 p.m.   The military has been conducting underground tests with missiles equipped with nuclear warheads. These tests have been carried out in the innermost area of the desert, located east of the city, despite your repeated advice to move the test field away from the fault's area of influence.

- Tuesday, 8 p.m.

The first shock waves of the earthquake have shaken the city. Experts cannot agree and are confused by the magnitude of the tremor. The mayor asks to remain calm and decides to wait for events.

- Wednesday, 9 a.m.   Tremors have persisted for the past few hours. Panic spreads and people flee their homes seeking to get away from the facades of the buildings that are collapsing on them. The streets have become inhospitable places full of rubble and broken glass. The mayor finally decides to evacuate the city. Meanwhile, our investigation from the city office continues without apparent results.

- Friday, 8.15 a.m.   Work hasn't allowed you to leave your office since Tuesday. The head of maintenance at the nuclear power plant informs you that a shut-off valve has been seriously damaged. For this reason, it is immediately available to attempt its repair. Meanwhile, in the city the evacuation has been completed.

- Friday, 8.23 a.m.

A gigantic earthquake strikes the city. You had always heard terrible things about earthquakes, but at no time could you have imagined the titanic and elemental violence that was being unleashed. Fortunately, the evacuation had been carried out virtually at the time of the earthquake.

- Friday, 9.13 a.m.

The earth has finally stopped shaking. The destruction has been total. You get a frantic radio call from one of the nuclear power plant maintenance workers. The primary cooling system is losing pressure, and the return system is still not working. People cannot stay there for much longer and are leaving the area. In a few hours the reactor will explode. It is clear what you have to do, you have to go to the city, get to the nuclear power plant and repair the cooling system.

3. The game

It is the first visit we made to the city. Our ignorance of the terrain makes us request information from the computer, which will show us a map of the city. If at any time during the game we require help to remember any detail of said plan, we may request this information from the computer again, regardless of the moment of the game in which we are. The game belongs to the conversational genre; that is to say, that we will have to converse with the computer introducing short sentences that it can understand. The conversation is conducted in English and supports a large number of commands, not having to introduce articles, only verbs, nouns and prepositions.
