The Sage Group plc, commonly known as Sage, is a British multinational software company headquartered in Newcastle, United Kingdom.
It is the world's third-largest provider of enterprise resource planning software, but the largest provider for small businesses, with 6.1 million customers worldwide. It has offices in 24 countries and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The company was founded by David Goldman, Paul Muller and Graham Wylie in 1981, to develop estimating and software for small businesses.
In 1984 the company released Sage software, a product for the Amstrad PCW, which used the CP/M operating system. Sales of his software soared from 30 copies a month to more than 300.
